meIt is shortly before 2 p.m. when there is a spectacular and fortunately relatively light accident in Hamburg-Bergedorf on Wednesday: a still unexplained cause crashed an articulated bus into the central bus station building.

The Verkehrsbetriebe Hamburg-Holstein vehicle stopped with the front axle on an escalator on the upper level of the station, said fire spokesman Jan Ole Unger.

The bus driver and a passerby were slightly injured. There were no passengers on the bus. “We were very lucky,” said Unger. The bus just lost passersby. He was wounded by flying glass shards.

The bus should have gone to Geesthacht, said a VHH spokeswoman. On the way to the starting area, he had turned right, passed the Kantstein, and passed through the glass façade. The company spokeswoman was unable to say anything about the cause of the accident. The 58-year-old driver is very experienced and sensible, with long professional experience, she said. The amount of the damage is still unclear.

As reported by the NDR, rescuers from the height of the fire brigade and a crane must now help rescue the bus. The bus station is currently closed.
