A truck trailer, lots of compost, and a bicycle handlebar – it was only by chance that rescuers discovered the buried woman here.
A 65-year-old man must have had some guardian angels who had an accident on Wednesday morning in Uchte (Nienburg district). Shortly before 8 a.m., a truck lurched alongside the woman riding the bicycle. The truck trailer overturned – the woman spilled into a huge compost pile.

“Only the face looked out”
Three residents, whom the severe accident had called to the street, heard noises from the compost pile. Then they discovered the buried woman. “Only the face was sticking out,” said a neighbor. Rescue work began immediately and the 65-year-old man was unearthed until the first paramedics arrived at the accident site.
By ambulance to the clinic
The woman was taken to a hospital by ambulance. She suffered a broken shin and some bruises; otherwise, it’s pretty good, her husband told NDR regional magazine Hallo Niedersachsen. The truck driver was also slightly injured in the accident.
Prosecutor wants to investigate accident
The road was closed to recharge the compost and recover the tractor-trailer. The truck did not stop again until around 3:30 p.m. Meanwhile, the road can be reused with slight restrictions, a police spokesman for NDR.de said Wednesday afternoon. The Verden prosecution ordered the seizure of the truck.
