Bundeswehr: far-right chat group exposed by soldiers

Pornographic images, tasteless jokes about people with disabilities and far-right propaganda material were exchanged: a chat group of 26 soldiers was exposed in a prestigious unit of the Bundeswehr. After more than a month of intensive investigations among the soldiers of the Panzer Lehrgruppe 9, a service ban has already been imposed against the ranks of the team in three cases.

The first advice for the chat group came from a soldier from the training brigade stationed in Munster and Neustadt am Rübenberge. Later, researchers from the Military Counterintelligence Service (MAD) found more and more cell phones belonging to soldiers who were also part of the WhatsApp group and who participated in the exchange of photographs and videos.

Pornographic images were said to glorify violence against women in military circles. But even worse are the images, texts and other propaganda materials that illustrate a clear closeness to right-wing extremism, deep-seated hatred of foreigners, and anti-Semitism among soldiers. Among other things, investigators found images of Hitler or photos of soldiers showing Hitler’s salute in the chat.

Most of the soldiers in the chat belong to a support battalion of the Neustadt training brigade. Among the soldiers, the talk was said to be far more than insipid and intolerable. More cell phones are currently being investigated, after which the evidence found will be turned over to the prosecutor. Hopefully more soldiers will be released.

A few days ago, the highest ranking soldier in the Bundeswehr, Inspector General Eberhard Zorn, visited the training brigade in Munster. The unit repeatedly provides forces for the VJTF NATO reaction force.
