FC Bayern Munich beat Hertha BSC 4: 3 (1: 0) a week after their clear defeat in Hoffenheim. In the home game against Berlin, the record champion lost a two-goal lead in the second half before Robert Lewandowski scored the supposed winning goal (85th minute). But it wasn’t over: Jessic Ngankam drew initially (88th) and Lewandowski took a penalty in injury time, which he converted himself (90th + 3).

Lewandowski had previously put Bayern ahead (40th / 51st), while Jhon Córdoba (59th) and Matheus Cunha (71st) scored for the Berlin team.

Bayern had a two-goal lead in the second half when Córdoba headed a free-kick. Manuel Neuer still got the ball but couldn’t avoid the 1: 2. A little later, Cunha started a solo passing several Munich people down the left. After a double with Krzysztof Piątek, he scored with a forehand to equalize. Corentin Tolisso had a great opportunity to score the winning goal from a corner kick, but he fired the ball meters wide over the goal (80th).

On his third goal, Lewandowski ran into a Thomas Müller cross at the far post and fired at point-blank range. The immediate draw came with a header from Ngakam off a cross from Maximilian Mittelstädt, which gave Bayern a chance to win when they grabbed Lewandowski with a high ball in the penalty area.

Hertha initially harmless

In the first round, FC Bayern was initially dominant. Lewandowski missed Hertha goalkeeper Alexander Schwolow from close range in the ninth minute before using a Serge Gnabry cross to make it 1-0 (40th).

Shortly after the break, Europe’s Footballer of the Year followed suit when Bayern right-back Chris Richards, who was making his starting line-up debut for Munich, played in the penalty area from the right. With the first ball, Lewandowski put the ball in front of him, with the second he shot it unsustainably into the left corner. The two-goal distance didn’t hold up, but Lewandowski scored twice.
