In the city derby, Hertha BSC trailed behind and won 3: 1 (0: 1) against Union Berlin. Taiwo Awoniyi gave Union the lead at the Olympic Stadium (minute 20), Peter Pekarik tied for Hertha (51st). Substitute Krzysztof Piatek decided the game with a double (74th / 77th). In the 23rd minute Union was outnumbered, Robert Andrich had kicked Lucas Tousart in the head.

After an opening phase with no highlights, Union used his first own shot to get ahead: Marcus Ingvartsen had passed Awoniyi. He didn’t hit the ball properly, but still edged it past Alexander Schwolow in the far corner (20).

The excitement of the first goal did not last long for Urs Fischer’s team. In a duel with Lucas Tousart, the union Robert Andrich tore his leg too much and hit the Frenchman with his foot on the head. Referee Felix Brych took Andrich off the pitch (23rd).

The game hardly changed due to the Unioner being outnumbered. Hertha BSC barely reached any agreements, the home team had a particularly difficult time off the game. Even Hertha’s best chance, a header from Dodi Lukébakio after a corner kick, posed no problems for Union goalkeeper Andreas Luthe (40th).

After the break, Hertha even tied. A single action by Matheus Cunha was decisive for this: the Brazilian created space for a shot from mid-range, Luthe defended himself from the ball to the side. The advanced Pekarik met the stabber (51).

As a result, Union was barely enough for its own relief attacks. The scorer Awoniyi left the field of play, with Sebastian Griesbeck an additional protection arrived to close the center and move the rival away from the goal (54th). However, this was only successful to a limited extent: after a playing error by Luthe, Hertha quickly played to the top, a deflected shot from substitute Piatek turned the game around (74th).

Shortly afterwards, Piatek scored his second volley goal and finally decided the match (77th). The last minute of injury time was a final setback for Union: Max Kruse was injured without rival influence and limped off the field. An eight-game series ended without a loss for Union. Hertha posted its first home win of the season and is eleventh ahead of the weekend’s games, Union is temporarily sixth in the table.
