Bundesliga: Borussia Mönchengladbach also lose to FC Augsburg

Borussia Mönchengladbach have lost their fourth consecutive Bundesliga game. At FC Augsburg, outgoing manager Marco Rose’s team lost 1: 3 (0: 0). Ruben Vargas (52 ‘), Marco Richter (76’) and André Hahn (89 ‘) scored for Augsburg. Meanwhile, Florian Neuhaus had tied (68th).

Overall, it is the sixth consecutive loss in a competitive game for the Gladbach team. In the first half it was clear why. Although Gladbach sometimes played hard forward and regularly closed in on the Augsburger Tor, the offense was zero. The exploitation of opportunities was worrying:

  • Valentino Lazaro ran alone towards the Augsburg goal, but first lost his rhythm and then the general view in front of goalkeeper Rafał Gikiewicz. Felix Uduokhai ran into the path and deflected the ball.

  • After Raphael Framberger fouled Marcus Thuram, Lars Stindl, one of the safest penalty shooters in the Bundesliga, faced off. Gladbach’s captain threw the ball hard one meter to the left of the goal.

  • Uduokhai returned the ball directly to the goalkeeper, directly stalking Lazarus. The next gift from the Augsburg defense, again Gladbach did not take advantage of the situation. Gikiewicz stopped him.

Worries grow even more

The Gladbachers’ concerns only increased in the second round. After a corner on the left, the incoming Vargas beat Stindl and went to the short corner (52º). Augsburg had guessed right with the first real goal attempt. An almost grotesque contrast to the opposite side.

As a result, Gladbach invested heavily in the offensive game and returned promisingly to the front of goal. Gikiewicz saved two shots from Thuram (53rd, 63rd), after the second attempt Lazaro headed past the empty goal in pursuit. The Augsburg goalkeeper was only defeated when Neuhaus fired from the edge of the box to the right corner in an instant (68).

Gladbach looked on his way to a major victory, a direct acceptance from Neuhaus led Gikiewicz around the post. The next blow fell on the other side again. After a cross, the ball went from a Gladbach player to Richter, who hit a corner kick from close range (76). In the final phase, Gladbach could achieve nothing. Instead, Augsburg countered the decision through Hahn (89th).
