Orphan
A four-year-old boy loses his parents to Covid-19: the neighbors organize a birthday party for him
First, Raiden’s four-year-old father died of Covid-19, four months later his mother. Now the family and the neighbors take care of the child. They have a surprise planned for their fifth birthday.
At the age of four, Raiden is an orphan. The boy from San Antonio, Texas, lost both parents to Covid-19, reports CNN. In June, his father died at the age of 33 after contracting the coronavirus from a work colleague. Four months later, in early October, his 29-year-old mother also died from the virus. Only four hours passed between the positive test result and his death.
Raiden has to celebrate his fifth birthday on November 28 without his parents. For now he lives with his grandmother. “Covid took my parents,” says Raiden, according to his great-aunt Margie Bryant. The family wants to give the child at least a little joy: there should be a big party for his birthday, as far as possible these days, respecting the distance rules. The whole neighborhood participates in this.
Birthday in dinosaur style
As CNN reports, a huge car parade is planned for Raiden’s birthday. The local fire brigade, monster trucks, a motorcycle club and some classic car enthusiasts have been announced. Everyone wants to bring their dinosaur-themed vehicles to life, because Raiden is a huge fan of dinosaurs.
“This birthday is a milestone,” says her great-aunt Margie Bryant. “We want him to know that we will be there for him on all of his birthdays.” Along with all the other neighbors, he wants to replace Raiden’s parents at least to some extent: “I know my niece is smiling because she knows her son is in good hands.”
Covid-19: “You rarely hear anything about the afflicted”
The four-year-old is still very sad for his parents, he often talks about them, says Margie Bryant. Sometimes he says, “I too want to be an angel like Mom and Dad.” Raiden hasn’t really realized the loss of his mother, his great-aunt reports.
The big birthday party in your hometown should also be a signal to all who are not yet serious about the corona virus. “You hear a lot about the dead, but you rarely hear about the bereaved,” Bryant told CNN. “I know what the virus did to us.”
