Professional boxer Robin Krasniqi is surprisingly the new light heavyweight champion of the world. The 33-year-old knocked out defending champion Dominic Bösel in the third round in front of 2,000 spectators in Magdeburg and snatched the interim WBA world association title and the IBO smaller association belt. For Krasniqi it was the first victory in the third fight for the world championship of his career, overall it was his 51st victory in the 57th fight. In 2013 and 2015 he lost his fights at the World Cup. For Bösel it was the second loss in fight number 31.

“This fight lasted 15 years. I have experienced ups and downs, I cried. Thank you very much to everyone who believed in me,” Krasniqi said at ARD: “I wish Dominic to come back strong. We are one great family, we win together, we lose together.”

Bösel had secured the interim World Cup in November 2019 against Swede Sven Fornling, but has not played a fight since due to the corona pandemic. Originally, he was supposed to defend his title against Zac Dunn in March. With the Australian still unable to leave his homeland, the 33-year-old Krasniqi stepped in as an opponent.

Bösel initially went unnoticed for the long break, although outsider Krasniqi was active from the start. After a balanced opening phase, Krasniqi delivered the decisive blow to victory with a right hand in the third round.
