British Prime Minister Boris Johnson isolated himself after contact with a crown-infected person. He is doing well and “has no symptoms” of Covid 19 disease, a government spokesman in London said on Sunday.
The announcement came after Johnson met several MPs in Downing Street on Thursday, one of whom subsequently tested positive for the virus.
Johnson will continue his work from his official seat to coordinate “the government’s response to the coronavirus pandemic,” the spokesman added.
In March, Johnson and Corona fell ill
Johnson himself tested positive for the coronavirus in late March and developed massive symptoms. During the first week of his illness, he was quarantined in the apartment above his official residence. Even in isolation, Johnson worked “very hard,” a government spokesman said at the time.
His serious illness with transfer to the intensive care unit amid the crown crisis had also caused uncertainty in the UK in April.
Reinfections are rare but not impossible
Experts had long suspected that an infection with the Sars-CoV-2 coronavirus does not mean that one is immune to this pathogen for life. In October, medical teams almost simultaneously reported two confirmed reinfections with the virus, which occurred within two months of the first infection.
In the United States, a 25-year-old had to be hospitalized after a second coronavirus infection. In the Netherlands, an 89-year-old man died after being reinfected.
However, much is not yet clear regarding reinfections. In the two cases described above, it is not known whether they formed antibodies after the first infection and in what quantity. This review is not routine in follow-up treatment. In one of the known cases, however, antibodies were detected after the first infection and yet the infection reoccurred.
Also, based on the few cases, it cannot be said whether the second coronavirus infection tends to be milder or more severe.
