The World War II bomb found in Bonn’s Vilich district on the right side of the Rhine was successfully defused on Monday night. Announced the fire department. A bulldozer driver had discovered the five-hundred-peso bomb in the morning while working to expand S-Bahn line 13 on the western side of the railway line at the edge of a cemetery. As a result, a nearby hardware store on Gartenstrasse was evacuated, as was a row of stores on the corner of B56 / Gartenstrasse.
The fraud will be defused on Monday by the Düsseldorf district government’s explosive ordnance disposal service, said Heiko Basten, spokesman for the Bonn fire brigade at the scene. The time depends on how quickly the area around the site can be cleaned.
A 400-meter evacuation radius had been established around the bomb to defuse it. “2,400 people are registered in the affected area,” Basten said. The fire department installed the Beuel-Ost Comprehensive School as a meeting place for residents who had to leave their homes.
The city of Bonn posted the evacuation radius on Twitter.
It was an American bomb with a rear impact detonator, which was located on the edge of a construction shaft and was secured with a tension belt so that it did not slide deeper into the shaft. The pump is already damaged. It was unclear whether this had already happened during the impact during WWII or currently during dredging work.
Note: In the first report on the bomb, there was talk of a 10-quintal bomb. A closer inspection of the failure turned out to be incorrect.
