Turning off this scenario of terror must be the top priority of German crown policy in this phase of the pandemic. In this sense, each of the measures that are now recommended is justified by itself. Because each of them could help ensure that images like the ones from Bergamo don’t also appear in Germany in the spring.
The problem, yes, the scandal, is that the measures are based on political opportunity and not on scientific knowledge. It is closed or prohibited when resistance is comparatively low or can be lowered to a controllable level with the help of tax money.
On the other hand, it remains open and allowed, promising a broad and sustained cry. Thus, kindergartens and schools remain in operation while the catering, tourism and events sectors are shut down.
What really helps is of secondary importance, because no one knows that such knowledge is, at best, vindicated anyway. Only in one in four cases are German authorities aware of where a corona patient is believed to have been infected. In three out of four cases, health authorities and the Robert Koch Institute have no idea. And nothing, really nothing, suggests that one quarter is representative of the other three quarters.
So if the relevant RKI statistics show that infection in private homes is the most widespread variant in a quarter of the cases tracked, while transmission of the virus in public transport almost never occurs, then that says almost nothing to the point. respect. true infection processes.
Deciding on the basis of those statistics that only members of two households can meet in public, while members of dozens or even hundreds of households continue to be huddled as usual on buses and trains – that not only seems arbitrary, it is also arbitrary. .
Each corona case had to be followed “meticulously,” declared the Chancellor in April, and then immediately lost sight of this goal. The authorities have not been improved in terms of personnel or technology, so the chains of infection can now be broken in significantly greater numbers. Yes, care has not even been taken to create a reliable database that is necessary to identify which routes of infection are spreading and which are not.
If one had that knowledge today, one might conclude that a package of measures similar to the one that has been decided now is necessary. But it is also quite possible that one can achieve as much or even more on the infection front with specific, but generally much less draconian measures.
The fact that the blocking light is really hard could probably have been avoided with moderate use of resources. And that’s what makes him so mad.
