Overloaded hotlines, federal patchwork quilt: The Bitkom digital association has harshly criticized the appointment of corona vaccines. Calls for centralized data collection and digital vaccination records.
The Bitkom digital association has called for a significant improvement in the management of corona vaccination in Germany. “This chaos in the allocation of appointments is absolutely unworthy of a high-tech nation like Germany,” said Bitkom Chairman Achim Berg.
A survey representative of their association had shown that the road to a vaccination appointment was too bumpy: 29 percent of respondents who tried to make an appointment for a corona vaccination for themselves or someone else only did so after 50 or more starts have been successful. says Berg. In 37 percent, it took between 25 and 50 attempts. According to this, only 14 percent reached their goal with 15 attempts or less.

Less pencil, more digitizing
Also unacceptable is the fact that no central data is available anywhere on what vaccination appointments have been agreed with citizens for the next few weeks, Berg said. In five federal states, namely Baden-Württemberg, Hamburg, Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia and Saxony-Anhalt, a service of the Association of Statutory Doctors of Health Insurance is used. “It didn’t work out well there.” In Berlin and Schleswig-Holstein, however, private providers were contracted with Doctolib and Eventim. France even uses Doctolib throughout the country and therefore has a much better view.
Regarding the equipment of health authorities, vaccination centers and social ministries, Berg said: “We cannot prevent the spread of the coronavirus with overloaded faxes, pencils and telephone lines, but with data platforms, a uniform digital organization at the national level of vaccination appointments and a corona warning app whose potential is best exploited. ”
Integrate the digital vaccination card into Corona-Warnapp
The Bitkom association undertakes to present a digital vaccination certificate parallel to the classic yellow vaccination book, which could be integrated into the Corona warning application. According to a representative Bitkom survey, two-thirds of people in Germany would use a digital vaccination card: 43 percent say “yes, definitely” and 21 percent say “rather yes.” Only 33 percent rejected a digital vaccination certificate. Of these, 31 percent said they simply don’t have a smartphone or tablet that an app can be used with. Additionally, more than one in two of those surveyed (56 percent) would like the Corona warning app to be expanded to include a digital vaccination pass.
“This is completely unworthy of a high-tech nation like Germany,” said Achim Berg, president of the Bitkom digital association, on digitization in the healthcare sector.
