A man was killed in several knife attacks in the British city of Birmingham. At least seven people were injured. Police are currently looking for a suspect and speak of arbitrary attacks.

There were several knife attacks in central Birmingham overnight. According to the police, a man died in the process. At least seven other people were injured, two of them were in “critical condition” at the hospital. Currently, the police are looking for a single suspect. There is no evidence of a terrorist background for the crime or a hate crime. Apparently the victims were chosen at random.

The incident took place around 1.30am (CEST). After that, the police received several calls. The people of Birmingham have been encouraged to avoid the area. Meanwhile, the area has been cordoned off. Forensics are investigating the area.

According to information from the BBC, the streets of the so-called gay town are cordoned off. The area is not only known for its restaurants, bars and clubs, but also for being a meeting place for the LGBTQ community. During the corona pandemic, streets were closed to vehicles so that more people could stay in front of stores.

West Midlands Mayor Andy Street called on citizens to stop speculating about what was happening. Avoid the Hurst Street area during the investigation.

Five injured also in London

Knife stabs are a big problem in the UK. In recent years there have been repeated incidents in front of bars and clubs. But stabbing and cutting weapons were also used repeatedly in terrorist attacks.

Five people were also stabbed in London. The incident occurred on Saturday night in the southeast of the British capital. Five people were arrested, according to Scotland Yard. The background to the London incident is not initially clear either; there is probably no connection to the events in Birmingham.
