Remains found in the forest

Five and a half years after her disappearance, a mushroom picker has now discovered the remains of the missing woman at Hahn airport in Hunsrück. He found her in the forest near Büchenbeuren in the Rhein-Hunsrück district, as the Bad Kreuznach public prosecutor announced on Monday. There is no information yet on whether Birgit A., 54, was the victim of a capital crime or had a fatal accident. His remains were identified with a prosthetic comparison. It will now be investigated further on site and also by forensic medicine.

The 54-year-old woman from Lohmar in North Rhine-Westphalia (Rhein-Sieg district) left her workplace at Hahn airport on Easter Saturday 2015, but never made it home. Her husband filed a missing person report. Police used sniffer dogs and helicopters to search for the woman. His car was discovered by a witness several days after he disappeared in a parking lot in the vicinity of Lautzenhausen.

His wallet, cell phone, and ID card were still in a shoulder bag in the car. After the vehicle was found, the police founded the “Soko Hahn” and began a large-scale search. Since his jacket was also found, investigators assumed an inadvertent disappearance, because at the time of the disappearance, the temperatures in Hunsrück were around freezing. It is not a good opportunity to walk without a jacket.
