Bielefeld – A former doctor at the Bethel Evangelical Clinic in Bielefeld who is suspected of abuse apparently committed suicide while in custody.

Philipp G. († 32) was found dead by employees in his solitary cell Thursday morning around 6 a.m., the Bielefeld-Brackwede correctional facility (JVA) said. The first police investigations indicated a suicide. G. is said to have suffocated.

The exact circumstances of death must be clarified in an autopsy. JVA Chief Uwe Nelle-Cornelsen: “We did not order any special security measures because the prisoner did not behave in a conspicuous manner.” According to information from BILD, Philipp G. left several farewell letters.

The attending physician at Bethel Evangelical Hospital (1,755 beds) was only arrested on Tuesday. He was under strong suspicion of administering anesthesia to drip patients and then raping them. The acts, which apparently occurred during the night shift, he videotaped and stored the films on his private computer.

This computer was seized in April 2020 after a patient became suspicious. Police did not open the encrypted files (reportedly larger than 20 gigabytes) until months later. According to unconfirmed information, a list of victims with around 100 names was also found!
