In Berlin-Kreuzberg, several people were probably wounded by gunshots. The fire department reported that three people were seriously injured in hospitals Saturday night. Rescue workers and emergency medics initially cared for the injured after they were shot, as a fire department spokesman said.

Another injured man was pulled from the nearby Landwehr Canal, said to have sustained a leg injury. According to the police, the man himself jumped into the water.

Around the Möckernbrücke metro station, which is directly on the Landwehr canal, the police searched the brush on the shore with flashlights. Police did not initially provide any information on the possible history of the crime.

No indication of political motive

Numerous heavily armed officers were on guard around the scene to search for those involved in the conflict, both the wounded and the perpetrators. A helicopter was also requested to circle the area.

The crime scene is apparently at a front door on Stresemannstrasse, as a photographer for the dpa news agency reported on the site. It is said that three wounded were found there. The SPD party headquarters is also very close. Police cordoned off the area.

According to current knowledge, there is no evidence of a political motive, a police spokeswoman said. Currently, the situation is very unclear. No information could yet be provided on how many people shot. A homicide squad took over the investigation.
