Shooting in Berlin-Kreuzberg: several seriously injured
Several people were wounded by gunfire in Berlin’s Kreuzberg district. The shots fell shortly before four in the morning, not far from the SPD headquarters, the Willy Brandt House.
On the night from Boxing Day to Boxing Day, shots were fired in the middle of Berlin-Kreuzberg. The police find several wounded. One is taken from the nearby Landwehr Canal. A homicide squad has taken over the investigation.
METERHonorable men are supposed to have been shot in the early morning of St. Stephen’s Day in the Kreuzberg district of Berlin. Four injured people arrived at the hospital and were being treated there, a police spokesman said Saturday morning. Firefighters had reported three people who were seriously injured and were initially treated by rescuers and emergency physicians. Numerous heavily armed officers were on duty around the scene in the vicinity of the SPD party headquarters. According to the police spokesman, the investigation was carried out by a homicide squad.
So far there have been no arrests. Meanwhile, a helicopter was also used in the search for those involved. The crime scene is apparently at a front door on Stresemannstrasse, as a photographer for the dpa news agency reported on the site. It is said that three wounded were found there. Police cordoned off the area extensively, mostly to obtain evidence. The operation continued on Saturday morning. According to the police spokesman, there were also police technicians at the scene.

At Stresemannstrasse 23, opposite the SPD party headquarters, there was a bullet hole in a door, as reported by the dpa photographer, not far from another bullet hole in a glass door. The path in front of the alleged crime scene was cordoned off.

Another injured man was pulled from the nearby Landwehr Canal, said to have sustained a leg injury. According to police, the man jumped into the water on his own. Around the Möckernbrücke metro station, which is directly on the Landwehr canal, the police searched the brush on the shore with flashlights.

“The background is not yet known,” a police spokesman said in the morning. “We also don’t know yet how many people were involved.” It is not yet known whether several people fired shots or there was an exchange of shots. “The investigation is ongoing”.

In Berlin there are always disputes between individual groups or families. More recently, after a 29-year-old was shot in Kreuzberg, there was an attack by about 10 men on a ground-floor apartment and a car. In February, a shooting at Berlin’s Tempodrom on Möckernstrasse, not far from the current crime scene, caused a sensation with one dead and four injured. The police were on duty with a large contingent, including homicide.
