Berlin, Brandenburg and Berchtesgadener Land: stricter crown rules in various federal states

The popular holiday region Berchtesgadener Land is the sudden rather unpleasant national attention. You have beautiful scenery, but you didn’t necessarily want to be interesting because of the crown crisis, District Manager Bernhard Kern (CSU) said Tuesday. But: “He finally got us.”

Your county is the first to see comprehensive lockdown measures again this fall. On Monday, the number of new corona infections per 100,000 residents in a week was 272.8, and therefore the highest number nationally. Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder urged a shutdown and the authorities put in place strict exit restrictions. On Tuesday the incidence fell slightly to 236.01.

Initially, leaving one’s home is only allowed for 14 days in Berchtesgadener Land for good reason. This includes pursuing professional activities, necessary shopping, but also sports and outdoor exercise, but only alone or with members of your own household (read more about restrictions here). Hundreds of tourists had to leave on Tuesday. Berchtesgadener Land Tourismus GmbH estimated the number of guests who wanted to spend an autumn holiday in the mountain idyll around Watzmann and Königssee at almost 2,500.

The authorities’ biggest problem: they do not know how the massive increase in the crown number came about. It’s a fuzzy event, District Administrator Kern said. A specific cause cannot be determined, nor is it a private event. “It is not due to a single celebration that took place in the county.”

Kern announced that Bundeswehr soldiers should arrive on Wednesday to help the district office track the chains of infection. The most important thing now is that the population supports the restrictions. He hopes this will soon bring the single-digit numbers to the so-called incidence value, and can reopen schools on November 9 after fall break.

Brandenburg: Minister sees Germany “at a turning point”

In other regions of Germany as well, authorities felt compelled to issue stricter rules in light of the growing number of infections. In Brandenburg, for example, in regions with a high number of infections, stricter restrictions on private celebrations and a ban on serving at night will be implemented.

This was announced by Health Minister Ursula Nonnemacher (Greens) after the cabinet meeting in Potsdam. The neighboring country France has already had to declare a health emergency due to the growing number of infections, the minister warned. “In Germany we are at a turning point.”

The cabinet decided that of 35 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in a week in these districts and urban cities, only up to 25 instead of 50 people today will be able to celebrate in public spaces and 15 instead of 25 people at home. It is forbidden to serve alcohol from 11 pm to 6 am in pubs, restaurants and pubs.

The city of Cottbus is already a corona risk area with an incidence of the so-called 7 days of 87.3. Out of a value of 50, only up to ten people can gather in public in the affected regions after the resolutions. For celebrations, the upper limits should lower to ten people in public spaces and ten to up to two homes in private spaces. Municipalities may require masks in crowded public places and in shopping centers.

Berlin makes the mask mandatory for markets and busy streets

The Berlin Senate also tightened the requirements of the crown. Among them is a mask requirement for markets and ten busy streets in the capital, as announced by the Senate. He also made the “urgent recommendation” to wear a mask in public spaces where the minimum distance of 1.5 meters cannot be maintained. There are also new contact restrictions in the private sector.

“We can only call on everyone to become aware of the situation,” said Berlin’s ruling mayor Michael Müller (SPD). The starting point of the infection process is often celebrations in the private sector.

The new regulations do not initially mean a blanket mask requirement, which Health Senator Dilek Kalayci (SPD) had previously discussed. Among the ten busy streets where mouth and nose protection is now mandatory are Schloßstraße in Steglitz and the Kurfürstendamm shopping street. However, this list “is not exhaustive” and could therefore be adapted if necessary, Müller said.

Contact restrictions in the private sector are also tightening. The ceiling for private outdoor celebrations has been lowered from 50 to 25 people. The curfew in Berlin continues, despite the successful demand of eleven Berlin restaurateurs. It is awaiting the decision of the next judicial instance and wants to legally secure the curfew with a new regulation, Müller said.

Housing rules in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania canceled

In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the higher administrative court struck down previously applicable accommodation restrictions for holiday guests from national crown risk areas. The state government could not provide an objective reason why guests staying in high-risk areas should be treated differently from school children, students or travelers, the court said. This means that holiday guests from risk areas will also be able to travel in the future without a prior corona test and will not have to be quarantined.

Chancellor Helge Braun (CDU) harshly criticized citizens who celebrate parties and violate state rules. “This is not a trivial offense, but behavior harmful to society,” he told the “Stern.” Germany has weathered the crown crisis comparatively well so far. “The only thing we can do to ruin our success is our need for leisure.” At the same time, he made it clear that he considers a further tightening of the crown rules necessary. The resolutions of the prime ministers last Wednesday “would not completely stop the huge increase.”
