Bavaria: Grünten’s missing wooden penis – police investigate

With the wind and the weather, a wooden penis stood on the Grünten in Oberallgäu for years. But over the weekend, the surprising sculpture mysteriously disappeared.

From the representation of the phallus, only the stump and the wood chips remain, as reported by the “Allgäuer Zeitung”. “Someone must have cut it in a night and fog operation,” the tenant of nearby Grüntenhütte told the newspaper. On Saturday night, the phallic symbol could still be clearly seen from his cabin, the tenant said.

The newspaper writes about a “castration” on the 1,738-meter-high mountain near Rettenberg. The police are now also concerned about the disappearance. A pro forma investigation has been launched, said Holger Stabik of the Presidium in Kempten. But one is still faced with a riddle: “We don’t know if it is a crime or not.”

According to the police, there is still no victim

Until now, according to Stabik, the owner of the sculpture is not even known. So there are no injuries yet. Perhaps the owner collected the six-foot penis himself. However, each track will be followed, but none have been received yet.

A few weeks ago, the penis caused a stir after falling off. The mayor of Rettenberg, Nikolaus Weißinger, calmed people’s minds at the time: no one had been harmed by the lack of “assertiveness.”

The sculpture, carved from a log, was raised again. The fact that it has now completely disappeared is “a disgrace”, as CSU politician Weißinger told the “Allgäuer Zeitung”.

It is not known who brought the wooden penis to the mountain years ago. In the meantime, however, the sculpture’s location, which is on private property, has been designated a “cultural monument” by the online mapping service Google Maps.
