The ban on out-of-home sales of hot alcoholic beverages such as mulled wine will be extended to all of Hamburg and to all alcoholic beverages for immediate consumption. The Senate decided on Tuesday.

“A city-wide ban on mulled wine is planned,” Senate spokesman Marcel Schweitzer said during the statewide news conference at noon. In a notification, the responsible social authority later declared in writing that the ban will take effect on Wednesday. In addition, the sale and delivery of all alcoholic beverages intended for immediate consumption, especially in glasses, cups or disposable beverage containers, are prohibited at any time of the day. However, this does not apply to closed beverage bottles or cans.

Bans in individual parts of the city from Tuesday

Since Tuesday it is forbidden to serve hot alcoholic beverages in busy places in the Nord and Altona districts. Because apparently many people do not adhere to the currently applicable distance rules when enjoying mulled wine or other alcoholic beverages together. That is why the Senate yesterday ordered the prohibition of the sale of these drinks between 4 and 10 at night in certain streets. This should further increase protection against infection, as “experience has shown that with increased alcohol consumption, the willingness and ability to comply with distance and hygiene rules decrease,” the Senate announcement said. It should apply until January 5.

Don’t jeopardize previous successes

“We are now in a critical phase of the pandemic. Even if it is part of the process for many to have a hot drink outside in the cold during Advent and chat with each other, we should not take past successes in containing and fighting lightly. the pandemic Put the game on, ”said District Senator and Second Mayor Katharina Fegebank (Greens). She called on all burgers to adhere to the rules of distance and hygiene and to enjoy mulled wine or Christmas punch at home this year.

Tuesday’s general decree applies to the following areas:

  • At Ottensen: Area bounded by Barnerstraße, Scheel-Plessen-Straße, train station without Paul-Nevermann-Platz, Max-Brauer-Allee, Klausstraße, Eulenstraße, Große Brunnenstraße, Ottenser Hauptstraße, Nöltingstraße, Am Born.
  • At the Sternschanze: Area bounded by Max-Brauer-Allee, Altonaer Straße, Dänenweg, Sternschanze, Schanzenstraße, Lagerstraße, Sternstraße, Neuer Kamp, Neuer Pferdemarkt, Stresemannstraße.
  • In Winterhude: The entire length of Mühlenkamp, Poelchaukamp from Mühlenkamp to Sierichstraße, Dorotheenstraße between Andreasstraße and Körnerstraße.

More adjustments in the next week?

The Senate wants to decide on new restrictions next Tuesday. Then it would probably also be a possible tightening of contact regulation for the period between Christmas and New Years, Schweitzer said. “We have to assume that we cannot be more generous here, but we have to become more strict,” the Senate spokesman continued. So far it has been planned that a maximum of ten people from a maximum of four households will meet in the Hanseatic city during this time.
