The Ministry of Social Affairs specified on Wednesday its plans for the corona vaccination strategy. Consequently, there should be many other “district vaccination centers” in Baden-Württemberg.

After the already well-known central vaccination centers in Freiburg, Offenburg, Karlsruhe, Heidelberg, two in Stuttgart, Rot am See, Tübingen and Ulm – which should be operational by mid-December – the ministry has now also determined the location of so-called district vaccination centers. “These should be ready to operate on January 15, 2021,” said State Health Minister Manfred Lucha (Greens) on an average.

“Our vaccination strategy is based on a stable foundation.”

According to the Ministry of Social Affairs, in addition to the central vaccination centers, one or two additional centers will be established in each city and district. In addition to stationary vaccination centers, there must also be mobile teams that vaccinate people in nursing homes, for example. Furthermore, the ministry is currently working on a concept of vaccination in clinics, which offers the possibility to vaccinate staff. However, it is not yet clear who can work in the centers and mobile teams, and who will. “In order to staff it, it will be necessary to collect all the free capacities,” the ministry announced, without giving details. In addition to doctors, we are also looking for medical specialists, security personnel, interpreters, drivers, cleaning staff, and temporary help with registration. The Bundeswehr will also be deployed in some places.

Who will get vaccinated against the coronavirus first?

According to the ministry, the prioritization of vaccines is determined by the federal government. The strategies “will be further specified once the vaccine has been approved.” However, it is already known that it is convenient to vaccinate groups of people such as “medical personnel, personnel of critical infrastructures and, above all, groups of vulnerable people”. Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) said on Deutschlandfunk on Tuesday: “Our goal is that the first risk groups and health workers are vaccinated from January.” However, Institute President Paul Ehrlich Klaus Cichutek emphasized: Immediately after a vaccine is approved, there can never be enough for everyone. Because the pandemic affects not only Germany and the EU, but the entire world. Therefore, the professor advocates prioritization, that is, who should receive which vaccines as a priority.
