Augsburg is experiencing a sharp increase in new corona infections. The city reacts to this with new rules. Citizens have to adapt to this.

The number of new corona infections is now also approaching in Augsburg the critical threshold of 50 per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days. It is currently 49.3. As Lord Mayor Eva Weber He said at a press conference on Monday that the value of 50 is expected to be reached soon: “Our health department is assuming that today, tomorrow or at the latest on Wednesday the 50 will be broken.”

The city reacts to this with a catalog of measures that were announced at the press conference. A distinction must be made between two different scenarios. The first applies as long as the value of new infections is still less than 50. The second takes effect once the incidence exceeds 50.

Even with the current rate of new infections below the value of 50, there are significant restrictions, for example, in private meetings. In rooms for private use and properties for private use, the group of participants will in the future be composed of members of their own household, life partners, relatives and members of another household or a maximum of ten people. Restrictions also apply to events, such as weddings, birthdays, or club meetings. A maximum of 50 participants is allowed indoors or 100 outdoors. There will also be restrictions on sports and nightlife.

As soon as the 50 limit is exceeded, even stricter rules apply. In this case, special rules apply for seven days. The gathering of people is then limited to five. For events, there is an upper limit of 25 participants indoors and 50 outdoors. In addition, it is planned to introduce a mask requirement for pedestrians in high-traffic places.

The number of corona infections in Augsburg has steadily increased in recent days. Among other things, there were cases in various school classes and at the Abraham retirement home in Inningen, where 14 residents are currently infected with the corona virus. Some patients and employees also tested positive for the virus at the district hospital. The situation was under control in both institutions, it was said at last.

The health department reported 93 new cases of Covid-19 over the weekend. The source of 49 infected people is still unknown. Quarantine measures were initiated for a class at the Bertolt-Brecht-Realschule and the Friedrich-Ebert-Grundschule.

New corona infections: Augsburg almost reached cutoff value

Over the weekend, the critical value of 50 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days was exceeded in Memmingen and Rosenheim, as well as in the districts of Fürstenfeldbruck and Regen. Cities like Berlin, Cologne, Stuttgart, Essen and Mainz are now considered risk areas because the number of new infections is particularly high. A nightly curfew has been in effect in Berlin since the weekend. The city is weighing whether there will be such measures in Augsburg.

On Saturday, Mayor Eva Weber again called on all citizens on her Facebook page to adhere to the AHA-L rules: keep your distance, follow hygiene rules, wear masks every day and ventilate regularly.
