Atlético’s first bankruptcy of the season
Kroos takes Real out of the derby crisis
Real Madrid, who have recently been in a difficult situation, win the derby against Atlético with strong goal coach Toni Kroos and take the capital’s rivals in the First Division to three points. Atlético, meanwhile, conceded their first defeat of the season in the eleventh league game.
Three days after the sovereign victory against Borussia Mönchengladbach and the entry to the knockout stages of the Champions League, Real Madrid also made a place in the First Division. Coach Zinedine Zidane’s team, which has been criticized, won the capital derby against leader Atlético 2-0 (1-0) and was three points behind the leaders. National player Toni Kroos was involved in both Real Madrid goals. Casemiro converted a corner from the 2014 world champions to 1-0 in the 15th minute of the game. Visiting goalkeeper Jan Oblak’s 2-0 (62) own goal was preceded by a free kick from Kroos, which Dani Carvajal, a former Leverkusen player, used to shoot from afar. Forward Karim Benzema, the man featured as a double scorer in the 2-0 win over Gladbach, became the only record holder among foreign professionals in Real Madrid history with his 528th competitive appearance. Before, the Frenchman shared a record with the Brazilian Roberto Carlos.
Real had already lost two of their last three home games in the First Division. Atlético have been waiting for a league win against their rivals in the city since February 2016. The ailing FC Barcelona will only be in action on Sunday night against relegation candidate UD Levante.
