ATEP570: when secure applications become insecure

[ad_1]

Apple has a reputation for taking the security and privacy of its customers very seriously. Of course, this does not protect the company from errors. A fatal error was reported in Apple Mail last week.

It is true that it is quite rare in Apple, but it exists: the so-called zero-day exploits. The bug found by Zecops has been in the system since iOS 6, since iOS 13 it is even easier to exploit. IPhones can be attacked, even without active user intervention. Until Apple releases a patch, there is at least one simple solution: remove Apple’s email app from the device.

You don’t know anything specific

The assessment of the situation is very different. Apple itself downplays the case, while several government agencies are reacting sharply. In the end, there is one thing above all: reliable figures or very specific or affected attack scenarios. There are only two facts: multiple security breaches must be used and a large number of devices are generally affected.

There are no standard applications …

In two weeks, this issue will be quite safe from the table and Apple will hardly have been harmed. This, however, gives another discussion to the new food: why doesn’t Apple allow other standard apps? Mail can be uninstalled; however, if an email needs to be sent through Mail-To-Link, iOS wants to reinstall the Mail app. Apple reasoning: The group attaches particular importance to security. An argument that is crumbling. Maybe the group is changing their mind now … a topic we already had on the podcast.
