Two days after the start of corona vaccines in Lower Saxony, the first people in Grafschaft Bentheim were vaccinated against the corona virus on Tuesday.

So far, three districts of Lower Saxony have started vaccination against the coronavirus. In the town of Nordhorn, in the Grafschaft Bentheim district, around 180 people were vaccinated on Tuesday. They were residents and employees of a nursing home, as well as members of the mobile vaccination team, a spokeswoman for the district explained. The district is one of the worst affected regions nationwide.

Starts in Cloppenburg and Osnabrück

Vaccines against Covid-19 had already started on Sunday in two particularly affected districts of Lower Saxony: Cloppenburg and Osnabrück. The next step will be vaccination from Wednesday in the district of Nienburg and in the city of Osnabrück. On Tuesday, he was still not sure if the vaccination will also start in the Hannover region on Wednesday.

Scholz: “Complete understanding” of delays

Around 127,000 doses of vaccines should be available by the end of the year. According to Heiger Scholz, head of the state government’s corona crisis team, the vaccine will be delivered when municipalities are ready. Especially now, between Christmas and New Years, it is a huge challenge for many nursing homes and retirement homes to do the necessary organizational work and obtain the consent of residents, Scholz said. “The goal should be to vaccinate as many people as possible when mobile teams visit the facility. This requires a lot of effort from the employees on site and a certain amount of setup time, which we fully understand.” He assumes that most municipalities will begin vaccinations in the first week of January, Scholz continued.

The state government asks for patience

The Lower Saxony Ministry of Health pointed out that most people in Lower Saxony still have to be patient. “The 50 vaccination centers will not start operating until the next step in January,” said a statement. Therefore, it is currently not possible to use the State Vaccination Hotline for Appointments: “The state government will communicate the start of appointments well in advance and in time and asks for a little patience.”
