Apple Watch Series 6, SE and iPad 8th generation and Air

reWaiting for the new iPhone models can be sweetened with an improved Apple Watch and the fastest iPad of all time. The US manufacturer introduced the Apple Watch Series 6 on Tuesday. Cupertino smartwatches have been around for five years, Apple dominating the market ahead of Samsung and Garmin. Usually in September, the new iPhones are presented together with the collection of modernized watches. This year, the production of new mobile phones will be delayed for a few weeks due to the crown, with the Apple Watch and the iPad in the foreground.

The new 6 Series comes with a number of health-related features. The watch is capable of measuring the oxygen saturation of the blood using optical sensors, as rivals Garmin or Samsung have been able to do for a long time. However, the Series 6 does it faster in just 15 seconds, says Apple. Oxygen-charged saturated hemoglobin is bright red in color and primarily absorbs red light. In contrast, unsaturated hemoglobin appears dark red to bluish in color.

Sports watches offer this functionality primarily for one reason: as a warning of altitude sickness in the high mountains. Air pressure decreases with altitude, so there is less oxygen in the air we breathe. The body needs to make more red blood cells with oxygenated hemoglobin, and that takes time. Even well-trained mountaineers can get altitude sickness from climbing too fast if they don’t take regular breaks to acclimatize. The measurement of oxygen saturation is useful here.

In healthy people, continuous measurement throughout the day is not necessary. However, a nocturnal measurement of oxygen saturation can indicate phases of sleep apnea.

The new Watch OS 7 operating system, which will also be available for older watches this week, offers a sleep program for the first time, in which the clock is turned off and silenced at night. You should also wear the watch at night, because Watch OS 7 measures sleep duration for the first time. Apple has not implemented a more extensive evaluation of night sleep, as other manufacturers offer it with the distinction between deep sleep, REM sleep and waking phases.
