In Vienna’s city center, several shots were apparently fired in front of a synagogue near Schwedenplatz on Monday night, Austrian media reported. According to the newspaper “Kronen Zeitung”, a policeman was shot. One suspected attacker is said to be dead, another could be on the run. Emergency services are currently in the process of cordoning off the entire area.

As the Austrian police told RTL, several shots were fired in the Vienna city park. There were several injured. It is currently unclear how many perpetrators there are. “Avoid all public places in the city,” police tweeted.

According to information from “oe24.at” there are allegedly three attackers. A suspected killer is said to have used an explosive belt and blew himself up, it is said.

A video is currently circulating on Twitter showing shooting. Other shots show people, some of them running in panic through the streets of Vienna.

The “Kronen Zeitung” also reported that the Israelite religious community in Austria had instructed all Jewish citizens not to leave their homes.
