The partial lockdown continues until January, and after? Chancery Minister Braun fears Corona’s conditions until spring. Meanwhile, the head of the SPD, Walter-Borjans, calls for the lessons to be changed at the access points.

On the morning after the federal-state conference on the crown crisis, Chancellor Helge Braun agreed with the Germans for more months on contact restrictions. “The difficult winter months await us. That will last until March,” Braun told RTL “Guten Morgen Deutschland”. For the period after March, however, he is optimistic, because more people could probably be vaccinated and spring will make fewer infections possible. “But this moderation, which we all have to show, will also accompany us in January, February and March and possibly also restrictive measures if our individual behavior is not enough,” continued the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Braun also confirmed that hotels and restaurants will be closed for Christmas. There will also be no exceptions for family visits. “We considered whether hotels could be opened when family members were visited so that there was no place on the couch in the house. But we came to the conclusion that this cannot be controlled. And tourist trips should definitely not take place.” Hotels and restaurants are now initially until December 20. It closed, so Braun: “But we suppose we will have to extend this until January.”

Relaxations are “a little inconsistent”

The head of the SPD, Norbert Walter-Borjans, defends in ntv “Frühstart” the relaxation of the measures for Christmas and in the days after, until the New Year included. “It’s also about absorbing what is bothering us all right now.” Therefore, it is good that family and friends do not have to be separated again immediately after the festival. The virus knows no holidays, so any loosening is “a little inconsistent” at this point, but correct in the case of Christmas.

Walter-Borjans also advocated that crown hotspots with an incidence of more than 200 shift to hybrid instruction in schools if possible, as warned in the federal and state decision. “Although it is always the worst way. But to fight the virus you have to accept it,” said the president of the SPD. Many cities with high incidence rates considered the principle of face-to-face teaching correct. “But there is also a limit to principles.” That is, when more and more teachers were absent due to the increasing number of infections and students had to be quarantined.

Scholz promises aid packages

The extension of the partial closure will also be compensated in December with the payment of compensation to the affected companies, restaurants, leisure and cultural institutions. Federal Finance Minister Olaf Scholz confirmed the scope of the new package in an interview with ntv. “That will be a very considerable effort for the federal budget, but in this case it is also justifiable and appropriate.”

This year and next, there would be more than 300,000 million euros in new debt. In recent years, however, the company has managed well, and therefore can afford it: “That’s still a lot in the area that you can deal with when you have a major crisis.” To save the home in the future, Scholz is counting on the number of infections to drop in December. “There is a lot to say about it,” said the vice chancellor.
