It could be another step forward in the fight against Covid-19: After Biontech, American competitor Moderna is also reporting success with its vaccine. Therefore, the efficiency is almost 95 percent. The EU Commission is already negotiating with the company the delivery of millions of doses of vaccines.
In the global race for a corona vaccine, another research project has reported decisive success. The corona vaccine from the American biotechnology group Moderna showed in an interim analysis an effectiveness of 94.5 percent in protecting against Covid-19. Moderna hopes to apply for an emergency permit in the United States in the coming weeks, the company said.
Moderna is the second US pharmaceutical company to provide positive data from the pivotal study with a corona vaccine in one week. Last Monday, Mainz-based company Biontech and its US partner Pfizer announced that their vaccination offers more than 90 percent protection against Covid-19. Like Moderna, Biontech is based on an mRNA vaccine. The EU Commission is negotiating with Moderna the delivery of up to 160 million doses of vaccine.
