Almost no relaxation of the wreath rules at Christmas and New Year’s Eve – SWR Aktuell

In Rhineland-Palatinate, there will hardly be any relaxation of the wreath measures at Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Prime Minister Malu Dreyer (SPD) just said this at a press conference.

After an intense discussion in the Council of Ministers, it was clear that the partial blockade had not achieved the desired result, “the figures are not what we would like,” said Dreyer. There could be no greater relaxation at Christmas and New Years Eve, “there is no place for that”.

Despite the measures taken within six weeks of the partial closure, the number of infections has not dropped enough to ease the clinics. He spoke with the directors of clinics across the country and said the situation for doctors and nurses was such that they were busy 24 hours a day, Dreyer said. “It is not about stopping the fun. It is about contact restrictions and that this year the clear priority is people’s health.”

“Too many people are dying”

The number of deaths among Covid 19 patients is increasing, according to Dreyer. “The point is that in Rhineland-Palatinate we currently have too many people who are dying. We will not accept it,” Dreyer said literally.

That is why the Council of Ministers decided not to make full use of the Christmas relaxation of the November 25 resolution, of the federal-state deliberations. The number of infections is expected to increase due to celebrations in family and friends, Dreyer said.

Christmas only with the “main family”

There will be no fundamental exceptions, one can only imagine that between December 23 and 27, ten people from a maximum of three households can meet. Christmas must be celebrated “with the nuclear family and friends of the heart”, only in the narrowest circle, “so that we can drastically reduce the number of infections.”

“Nobody wants and has to spend the Christmas holidays alone and alone. And I think that everyone should carefully consider the risk of family celebrations,” said the Prime Minister.

Dreyer said on the question of opening hotels. “We don’t want you to open it. If someone is coming for a funeral or a sick mother, they can go to the hotels that are still open for business travelers.”

Ordinance next week

The cabinet had yet to pass resolutions on Tuesday, Dreyer said. Next week a regulation will be released for the Christmas and New Year’s Eve period.

No exceptions on New Year’s Eve, no firecrackers

There should be no exceptions for New Years Eve. By this time, a maximum of five people from two households must meet again. Parties and large gatherings of people with high alcohol consumption on New Year’s Eve are definitely not responsible and should be prohibited in public places and on public streets, as well as New Year’s fireworks.

Dreyer said he would again ban firecracker sales on the issue at the next federal-state meeting. “That would be the cleanest solution.”

It will not be possible to control everything, that is impossible. “If we create new rules for New Years Eve, then that is the call to people to respect them and take them seriously.”

No longer vacations

Dreyer turned down an extension of the Christmas break. “We don’t want the holidays to be prolonged,” he said. That would mean that the children are home without school and that classes are completely canceled. “That is not our model.”

Dreyer did not want to commit to a possible extension of the partial lockdown beyond January 10.

Six municipalities with an incidence of 200

In Rhineland-Palatinate, the municipalities of Vorderpfalz, Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis and the cities of Frankenthal, Ludwigshafen and Speyer have so far exceeded a seven-day incidence of more than 200 infected people per 100,000 inhabitants. Additional protective measures have been implemented in the three cities since Saturday; the other three regional authorities will follow on Tuesday. The following restrictions apply.

  • A stricter contact limit: one household plus two people from just one other household
  • An additional limit of visits to nursing homes and for the elderly: 1 person for 1 hour per day
  • A limitation of the general store opening at 9pm
  • Prohibition of the sale of alcoholic beverages between 9 pm and 6 am
  • An exit time limit from 9:00 pm to 5:00 am and strict application of the mask requirement in public places and busy streets.
  • Alternate lessons basically from the eighth grade with some exceptions defined as the final classes
