A gunman killed several people in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. The alleged author was also killed. Police talk about various crime scenes, the reason is not clear.
At least 13 people have died in an alleged wave of murders in eastern Canada. “We believe that one person is responsible for all the killings and that he is alone in the northern part of the province and has committed the apparent killings,” said Commissioner Chris Leather. However, the investigation was at an early stage.
The alleged gunman, a 51-year-old man, was detained by police at a service station in Enfield on Sunday afternoon. He was killed in the process, Leather said. According to investigators, the alleged perpetrator is said to have disguised himself as a police officer. His car was also like a police vehicle.
Police officer among the victims
Initially, investigators did not provide any information on the shooter’s motive. Leather confirmed that police will also verify whether the acts had anything to do with the coronavirus outbreak. So far, however, there are no indications for this.
The victims were found at various crime scenes in the province of Nova Scotia. In a residential building, investigators found several dead on Sunday night. Leather spoke of a “chaotic” scene. Elsewhere, the property was set on fire. A police officer is among the victims, as investigators said.
Trudeau expresses his condolences
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police had already received evidence of an armed attacker on Saturday night. Residents were asked to stay in their homes and close their doors.
According to Commissioner Leather, the death toll is likely to be more than ten. “I don’t know how much more than ten,” he said. His sympathy is with those affected, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said.
