Charges against World Cup organizer Franz Beckenbauer (74), former DFB Presidents Wolfgang Niersbach (69) and Theo Zwanziger (74) and former Secretary-General Horst R. Schmidt (78) are closed, the case is closed. . Nothing incriminating was found. The case against Beckenbauer had been closed prematurely due to health problems.
I, the BILD reporter, have a friendly bond with Franz Beckenbauer. I never hid it. Beckenbauer, the light figure of German football for decades, has to deal with health problems. He had to undergo two major cardiac surgeries. After an eye attack, you see practically nothing in one eye. He lives with his family in Salzburg.
When asked about the “summer fairy tale,” he said several times, “I am at peace with myself!”
