The court found it proven that the then 27-year-old poisoned his fiancée with drugs to free himself for a new relationship. He buried the dead woman in the forest and told relatives that the woman had disappeared. In the fall of 2013, mushroom pickers found her body. During the trial, the man admitted to burying the body. He rejected blame for the woman’s death. She probably took the pills herself.

Rudi Cerne: “That has never happened before”

A few days before the verdict, Rudi Cerne described the developments in the Baumer case as unique. “That has never happened in the history of ‘Aktenzeichen xy’,” he told the German press agency. The 62-year-old has been running the show “Aktenzeichen xy … ungelöst” on ZDF since 2002, in which viewers can help investigators with their clues to solve crimes. The first episode of the long-running hit aired in 1967.
