Treatment in case of electoral victory
Rousaud promises: Haaland moves to Barça
Needed by David
Emili Rousaud, former vice president of FC Barcelona, disputes the presidential vacancy with the Catalans. Now he announces: If elected, Erling Haaland from BVB goes to Barça. The deal is already decided. What is the truth of the absurd claim?
The battle for the presidency is being waged at FC Barcelona. We must find a successor for Josep Bartomeu, who resigned at the end of October. After the 8-2 defeat to Bayern in the Champions League quarterfinals, Lionel Messi wanted to leave the Catalans a year before his contract expired, mainly because of Bartomeu, who he felt betrayed. The new president has to try, among other things, to persuade the Argentine superstar, who recently announced his open future again, to stay.
Who wants to become the new president of FC Barcelona is the businessman and former vice president of Barça Emili Rousaud. And probably also to persuade Messi to stay with the Catalans, he already wants to have made a seemingly absurd deal: he had reached an agreement on the transfer of Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund to Barcelona. If you win the election on January 24, the agreement will go into effect.
Real Madrid cheated?
At least that’s what Josep María Minguella, Rousaud’s sports vice-president candidate, says. “We know all the conditions and if we win,” said Minguella, “I will call Mino Raiola (Haaland’s advisor) the next day and accept these conditions. I already pointed it out to him.”
Haaland would of course make a nice opening gift, after all, half the football world envies Borussia Dortmund for the precise Norwegian striker. The deal would be particularly well received by fans, because Real Madrid, his archrival Real Madrid, are said to have shown long and intense feelings for the 20-year-old. However, there have also been rumors that the victory of another Barça presidential candidate, Joan Laporta, was linked to Haaland’s play because Laporta has close ties to Raiola.
Haaland has a contract with BVB until June 2024, but it should contain an exit clause. Therefore, it is not yet clear how the Catalans in athletic, financial and institutional crisis should pay the striker. Recently, the Norwegian had repeatedly stressed that he felt very comfortable in Dortmund and that he still had some plans with the team. But Rousaud hasn’t stopped at Haaland for a long time, but he wants to take French world champion Kylian Mbappé with him if he becomes president. Minguella said: “It is a little more complicated because his contract ends next year,” but the “issue is under control.”
In Spain, it is common for the presidential candidates of soccer clubs to sell big names before the elections. Some changes never happened. Laporta and Victor Font, the third candidate, however, unlike Rousaud, held back. The latter made headlines even before Haaland’s supposed agreement: sometimes he announced the return of Neymar, sometimes he suggested changing the name of the stadium to Camp Nou Leo Messi.
If all Messi is boiling over and if there is any truth to Haaland’s supposed deal, Rousaud will have to be weighed against this if he is truly elected president of the glorious Catalans.
