In Bentheim County, police recorded about 40 violations of the new curfew on Boxing Day. It was 22 on Christmas Eve.
Police said Saturday that those affected had been understanding. However, they should expect a fine of at least 150 euros. The curfew was imposed to curb the high number of coronavirus infections in the region.
Leave home just for a good reason
Since December 23, the approximately 140,000 residents of Grafschaft Bentheim have only been allowed to leave their homes and properties between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. for professional or medically necessary reasons. It is also allowed for a person to take a dog for a walk. On Christmas Eve, the curfew didn’t start until 10 p.m.
Christmas Eve: Home Too Late
In general, the restriction had a high acceptance among the population, according to the police. The few cases from the first night would have proved it. The district curfew has been in effect since Wednesday night. Six walkers and cyclists were banned from the streets from Wednesday to Thursday. On Christmas Eve, most of those affected simply left too late on their way home after visiting relatives, according to a police spokesman on Friday.
Objective: people should reduce contacts
By restricting exit, the district wants people to reduce their contacts.
