After the US elections: Trump fans protest in Washington

The Freedom Square near the White House in Washington today belonged to supporters of President-elect Trump. His idol was also visible, behind the armored windows of his limousine.

Thousands of supporters of US President Donald Trump have gathered in Washington to protest his election. The protesters demanded “four more years” for Trump in the White House despite the electoral victory of Democratic challenger Joe Biden and denounced alleged electoral fraud.

Trump himself passed the protesters in his armored presidential limousine and greeted them through the window. They received him with great cheers. The president then turned to golf. Several groups called for the protests, including the nationalist “Proud Boys” and “Women for Trump.” He had written the day before on Twitter: “I could try to say hi.”

There was massive publicity on social media for the “MAGA Million March” based on the Trump campaign slogan “Make America Great Again.” This raised concerns that protesters could collide with Trump opponents who have been staying near the White House in Black Lives Matter Plaza for weeks. As a precautionary measure, police cordoned off much of central Washington.

Did Trump indicate to give in?

The president continues to refuse to admit defeat in the November 3 elections. On Friday, however, it seemed for the first time to indicate a possible compromise: The “future” will show who will rule the country in the future, he said in a subordinate sentence in a speech in the White House rose garden.

Previously, television stations CNN and ABC had proclaimed former Vice President Biden the winner in the embattled southern state of Georgia with its 16 voters. This brings Biden to 306 out of the nation’s 538 electorate, and he needed 270 to win an election. At the same time, CNN and ABC declared that Trump had won the disputed North Carolina with his 15th electorate.

This declared winners in all states. Trump has a total of 232 voters. The incumbent has spent days talking about alleged electoral fraud without evidence and accuses the Democrats of trying to “steal” his election. So far, electoral authorities have reported no major wrongdoing in a single US state. On Thursday, high-ranking representatives of the US electoral authorities resolutely rejected the fraud allegations in a joint statement: The November 3 elections were “the safest in US history.”
