After a second crown test with Klemens Muranka was negative, the Polish ski jumpers are about to return to the Four Hills Tournament. Monday’s classification would then be irrelevant in sporting terms.
In all likelihood, the Polish team will now be able to participate in the inaugural competition of the 69th Four Hills Tournament (event overview with schedule and information). After Klemens Muranka received a negative result in a second crown test on Monday evening, the Polish Ski Association (PZN) lodged a protest with the International Ski Association (FIS).
On Monday night, the Polish team was tested in isolation at the team’s hotel for the third time, and if these tests come back negative again, nothing will stand in the way of the Poles returning to the tour. The Polish Association and the FIS confirmed this on Monday evening. Test results are expected Tuesday morning.
New hours for Tuesday
In the case of an unscheduled team captains meeting, the FIS agreed with the participating nations to allow the 62 athletes to start in the competition in this case.
The yet unconfirmed schedule foresees that the seven Polish ski jumpers will receive more training jumps starting at 2:30 pm, before the test race begins at 3 pm The competition starting at 4:30 pm then it would take place without a knockout mode, which would make Monday’s qualification irrelevant.

In the lead up to the decision, officials from the Polish association found clear words and criticized the quarantine order for the entire team after Muranka’s positive test result. “We are not farmers, but serious rivals and a team that will fight hard,” said sporting director Adam Malysz of the sports magazine ‘Przeglad Sportowy’ and announced a formal protest at the FIS and the tour organizing committee.
Meanwhile, even the Polish Sports Ministry had intervened. “We are in contact with the president of PZN. We will demand that Polish ski jumpers be admitted to the Four Hills Tournament tomorrow, ”said the responsible minister, Piotr Glinski.
Four corona cases in 760 tests in Oberstdorf
The organizers of the Four Hills Tournament carried out a total of 760 tests in the run-up to the inaugural competition in Oberstdorf. A positive result was broadcast four times: in addition to Muranka, a physiotherapist from the DOV national group as well as an employee of a foreign television station and one of the volunteers tested positive.
