Andreas Kalbitz, right-handed shooter, has to worry about his party’s membership. The Brandenburg state president admitted in a letter that his name may have been on a “prospect or contact list” of the now banned organization “Heimattreue Deutsche Jugend” (HDJ).

Andreas Kalbitz, the AfD’s top right-wing politician, must fear losing his party membership.

In a letter to the 13 members of the AfD federal executive board, Kalbitz has admitted that his name may have been on a “prospect or contact list” of the now banned organization “Heimattreue Deutsche Jugend” (HDJ). Kalbitz describes this as “quite possible and probable”.

This stems from the five-page statement to the party’s federal executive board, the WDR, NDR and Süddeutscher Zeitung is present. According to AfD statutes, if Kalbitz had been a member of the neo-Nazi organization, he should never have been accepted into the party. Whether you have a future at AfD depends on how the federal board evaluates your return. The highest committee of the AfD party already wants to discuss the future of Kalbitz on Friday.

As stated in board circles, parts of the party executive are convinced that Kalbitz cannot stay in the party. However, such a decision must also be legally hermetic, according to the party leadership.

A decision by party leaders is not expected on Friday, but there is likely to be a “brusque argument.” Influential members want to push for an early decision to part ways with Kalbitz.

Influential string puller

However, Kalbitz still has defenders in the party leadership. Kalbitz is a member of the federal executive and state president and leader of the AfD in Brandenburg. He is considered the shooter of the right-wing extremist and in these circles at least as influential as his figurehead Björn Höcke, because he decisively controls this flow.

In late March, the federal executive board asked the Brandenburg AfD head of state to review his biography and any right-wing extremist references. The reason for this is the opinion of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution on the AfD, in which it was established that Kalbitz was a member of the right-wing extremist organization HdJ.

The report stated, among other things, that Kalbitz was strongly rooted in right-wing extremism and that the name “Andreas Kalbitz Family” and a four-digit membership number were found on a list of HDJ members.

Kalbitz denies this and is now trying to get out of the matter by referring to an alleged “contact list”. By contrast, the Office for the Protection of the Constitution apparently has a list of members with a member number. In his letter, Kalbitz explains in five pages in detail from his point of view the far-right and far-right organizations with which he had personal connections.

The controversial AfD politician had only previously admitted, according to media reports, having attended two events by the right-wing extremist organization to find out how he explained.

Among other things, his statement now includes several letters from the Höcker law firm, which represents the AfD politician in legal action against the BfV. Kalbitz wants to obtain the report on the protection of the constitution, as well as the list of “alleged” members of the HDJ to be verified.
