The more than two million federal and local employees can expect higher wages. Trade unionists and employer representatives agree to a compromise. There will be a separate salary increase for nurses starting next year.
An agreement has been reached in collective bargaining for the public service of the federal government and the municipalities. As announced at noon, earnings will increase 4.5 percent in the lowest group and salary bracket and 3.2 percent in the highest group. The collective agreement runs until December 31, 2022.
As also stated, wages and salaries should initially increase by 1.4 percent by April 1, 2021, but by at least 50 euros and by another 1.8 percent by April 1, 2022. Los trainees receive 25 euros more each. The unions had entered into negotiations demanding a 4.8 per cent increase in wages and salaries over a period of one year.
Separate salary increases were agreed for the nursing staff. As of March 2021, an assistance allowance of 70 euros will be paid, which will be increased to 120 euros a year later. The allocation in intensive medicine more than doubles to 100 euros per month, the alternate shift allocation increases from 105 to 155 euros per month, as said. In care centers such as nursing homes, the provision of care is equated with municipal hospitals with a plus of 25 euros. Doctors from the health authorities will receive an allowance of 300 euros per month from March 2021.
Due to the corona pandemic, the collective bargaining round took place under special conditions. Some of the members of Verdi’s rate commission were connected online. Unions were under pressure to hold strikes and protests in compliance with hygiene regulations. Municipal budgets are burdened by the economic crisis and falling business tax revenue.
The third round of negotiations began on Thursday. For a long time the positions were very far apart. The negotiations lasted almost 14 hours on Saturday. The committees waited hours to discuss a proposal. More than two million federal and local employees are affected by the current agreement.
