Actor Birol Ünel, best known for his role in Fatih Akin’s famous film “Gegen die Wand”, has died. “Maxim Gorki Theater” director Shermin Langhoff confirmed at BILD’s request:
“Birol Ünel died Thursday afternoon in a Berlin hospital.”
He died after suffering from cancer and was only 59 years old.

Ünel also starred in the RAF film “Death Game” and the kidnapping drama “Landshut”, and was most recently seen in “I’ll be gone.” He also had a role in the Fatih Akin comedy “Soulkitchen.”
The 59-year-old man was hospitalized on August 18, after which his condition worsened. As BILD found out, Ünel shouldn’t have woken up yesterday after an operation.
His friend, filmmaker Fatih Aktin (47) cries for him on Instagram: “Rest in peace, my friend. You had a light in you that has always overwhelmed me. “
