reThe so-called seven-day incidence of coronavirus spread in Germany is below the 100 mark for the first time in three months, the Robert Koch Institute reports.
As a result, the value fell to 98 on Thursday. The incidence of the last seven days, that is, the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within this period, was less than 100 on October 29.
German health authorities reported 17,553 new corona infections to the RKI in one day (as of January 28 at 0 am).
The seven-day R-value nationwide was 0.87 based on RKI’s status report on Wednesday night (previous day 0.88). This means that, in theory, 100 infected people infect 87 more people. The value represents the appearance of the infection 8 to 16 days ago. If it is below 1 for a long time, the infection process subsides.
The seven-day incidence is an essential benchmark used by the federal and state governments for the imposition and relaxation of crown restrictions.
The federal government’s goal is to bring the value below 50. The previous high of 197.6 was reached on December 22.
