A66 crash: alleged Lamborghini sliders seemingly free again

Two sports car drivers who were allegedly involved in an accident on the A66 were apparently released on Friday. So said the lawyer of one arrested the “Hessischer Rundfunk”. A 71-year-old driver was killed in an accident near Hofheim am Taunus a week ago and other people were injured.

Investigators initially assumed that an illegal auto racing could have been the cause of the accident. This suspicion no longer exists, the prosecution confirmed to the station, and therefore neither does the risk of flight that caused the arrest warrants. An expert corrected the previous assumptions about the course of the accident, also based on a video of a witness. Initially no further details were known.

One of the two arrested is a 29-year-old man who, according to police, crashed his Lamborghini into the middle barrier and then into the 71-year-old car. The woman’s car later caught fire. The second man, 26, initially left the crash site and later turned himself in to the police. A public prosecution is still being sought for a third party.

The prosecution had requested the arrest warrant for the three drivers for homicide on low grounds by means dangerous to the public. All three would have accepted the fatal accident at least with approval, “when you drive those cars at such high speed,” said Attorney General Nadja Niesen.
