meA clear majority of AfD supporters consider a crown conspiracy to be at least likely. This was the result of a representative survey on behalf of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, which has been received by the FAS. Twenty-four percent of AfD supporters believe that “the crown pandemic is a conspiracy to oppress the people.” Another 41 percent believe this is likely. This belief is much less common among supporters of other parties. For example, nine to twelve percent of the Union, the SPD and the left are of the opinion that the claim that the coronavirus is a pretext for oppression is true or probably correct.

Overall, nine percent of those surveyed believe that it is probably correct that the corona pandemic is just a pretext to repress the people. Another five percent are sure. “They are fundamentally wary of diverse information from national and international health authorities, science or politics,” writes study author Jochen Roose. But: “An overwhelming majority see the contact restrictions, the mask requirement or other restrictions for what they are: efforts to contain the spread of the dangerous corona pandemic.” Two-thirds of those surveyed hold the statement “The coronavirus is an excuse to” hold back people “is sure to be wrong, and another 17 percent believe it is likely.

In general, belief in a world conspiracy has waned: “While before the Crown crisis eleven percent of the population was sure that the world was being controlled by secret powers, it is eight percent during the crisis. . Before the Corona crisis, another 19 percent believed that it was probably right for secret powers to control the world. In the Corona crisis, 16 percent fewer people think this is likely. ” In contrast, AfD supporters believe that a worldwide conspiracy has risen.
