For months, gamers and the gaming industry have been wondering if Xbox Series X and Playstation 5 will hit the market in late 2020 despite the crown crisis. Now AMD’s Lisa Su has confirmed in an interview with analysts that the production of the required processors will be increased, “to support Christmas releases of the new Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles.”

The next consoles from Microsoft and Sony were created together with AMD. Both the Xbox Series X and the Playstation 5 use a system on a chip (SoC) with a Zen-2 based CPU and with a RDNA2 based graphics unit.

In general, the Microsoft console should achieve a computing power of 12 teraflops, while the Sony console creates up to 10.3 teraflops. In practice, however, these differences may be barely noticeable, also because many independent developer studios are interested in offering a comparable gaming experience on both platforms.

Incidentally, there are currently rumors that Sony still has a surprise in store: a frequent (but not always) reliable leak with the pseudonym Tidux posted on Twitter in early May 2020 He wrote that Playstation 5 should use some graphical features of the upcoming RDNA3 architecture, and Microsoft shouldn’t.

This is probably a hoax. First, because RDNA3 is unlikely to end before 2022. On the other hand, simply because AMD would jeopardize its relations with Microsoft as an extremely important business partner.

Microsoft and Sony have repeatedly said in recent weeks that the production and release of the new consoles should go as planned and that the devices will launch worldwide before the end of 2020. However, there were rumors that Sony I wanted to produce somewhat smaller amounts of Playstation 5 at the moment than on the PS4.

Microsoft wants to unveil new gameplay for upcoming Xbox Series X games on May 7, 2020 at 5 p.m. as part of an online event. New titles are also expected to be announced. At Sony, the presentation of the design of the console is also pending. There is currently no indication of when that could be.
