Akolo crash continues – VfB is now concerned about transfer – 2nd Bundesliga

Striker Chadrac Akolo (25) was considered THE big promise at VfB a while back. When he came from Sion for a transfer fee of € 6 million in 2017, he made the news immediately: A displaced person from the Congo, who risked his life while fleeing the Mediterranean, is stirring up the Bundesliga.

In the first half of 2017/18, he was Stuttgart’s top scorer. And he was recommended for his VfB appearances for the Congo national team. A fairy tale But after half a year things went downhill, with their performance, with the seasons, with their market value.

In 2018, powerful player consultant Roger Wittman took Akolo and prophesied: “We want to make him a top player, he has the potential.” Instead, the nimble strikers took one low blow after another.

This missed him for a long time: Akolo missed a penalty in the final phase of the match against Bayern, Ulreich stopped, who lost VfB. Photo: Bongarts / Getty Images

After the decline in 2019, the club served him and loaned it to France. With FC Amiens he goes down to the second division after the end of the season.

After all: Akolo played a good first half of the season. In winter I already had enough allowances to make the loan (fee of 500,000 euros) a purchase obligation. Amiens has to pay 3.5 million euros.

However, VfB is concerned about coal. Because: the end of the season will lead many clubs to a desperate situation. If Amiens files for bankruptcy, VfB will have to eliminate the transfer fee.

In addition to Chadrac Akolo, VfB has stationed six other professionals at other clubs. This is how it looks with the sextet.

► Anastasios Donis (23 / Stade Reims): After the end of the season in France, Reims ranked fifth and managed to stay in the league. This means that a purchase clause applies: the French must commit the Greeks for four years and pay a transfer fee of five million euros. However, his season record is moderate: He only made six initial appearances and remained without a goal.

► Erik Thommy (25 / Düsseldorf): Fortuna has a call option (€ 3 million) in the event of a decline. Thommy has been used in all 25 league games, 17 times since the start.

► Nikolas Nartey (20 / Hansa Rostock): Due to an ankle injury, he only played eleven times. It will probably be loaned for another season.

► Ailton (24 / Qaraba Adam): The Brazilian arrived at VfB in the summer of 2017 and has been awarded three times since then. Now he is kicking in Azerbaijan. There is no future in VfB.

► David Kopacz (20 / Górnik Zabrze): Play a decent season in Poland. Future in VfB but uncertain.

► Pablo Maffeo (22 / Girona): in the regular clubs of the Spanish second division. VfB will try to get rid of the € 9 million purchase in the summer.
