The European Football Union has suspended its European Cup competitions until further notice: the remaining games before August are currently unlikely.
Therefore, the change to the calendar year would have the advantage that the leagues would have significantly more time until the end of 2020 to finish the interrupted season. Subsequently, the pace of the calendar could be played for at least two years and no further serious change would be necessary for the Qatar World Cup.
