After a corona infection on board, the cruiser “Mein Schiff 3” was quarantined in Cuxhaven. A crew member had tested positive for the new type of corona virus, the Cuxhaven district and the TUI Cruises shipping company said.

According to TUI, 15 crew members had come to the hospital on board with mild flu-like symptoms after arriving in Cuxhaven. One of them had tested positive for the corona virus. The 15 employees are isolated in their cabins and receive medical attention, the shipping company said.

There are currently no guests on the ship. There were 2,899 crew members on board, some of whom were transferred to “Mein Schiff 3” by other TUI ships. From Cuxhaven they should start the journey back to their home countries.

However, some crew members had already left the ship in the past few days. According to the shipping company, they were contacted and asked to quarantine in their home country.

Local politicians have ruled out that the ship represents a danger to the people of the region. “There is no danger to the population of the city and the Cuxhaven district,” said Kai-Uwe Bielefeld district administrator and Cuxhaven mayor Uwe Santjer (SPD).

According to the district, employees of the health department and the Helios Cuxhaven Clinic are on board to take smears of everyone who shows symptoms and identify contact persons.
