New traffic regulations: more protection for cyclists

More safety for cyclists and pedestrians, more severe penalties for parking and speeding – the new traffic regulations that apply from today bring new rules and higher fines.

If you drive too fast, use an emergency lane without permission, or stop in a bicycle lane, you will face more severe penalties in the future. Starting today, new rules apply to road traffic. The amendment to road traffic regulations establishes more severe penalties for infractions, both in towns and cities.

Consequently, the speed of parking tickets and fines is much higher: Driving bans should also be imposed. Under the new regulation, protective strips for cyclists can no longer be used on the road. Otherwise, there is a penalty of up to 100 euros and a point in the driving fitness record, that is, in “Flensburg”. Until now, stopping there was allowed for up to three minutes.

Severe punishments for speeders

Parking in the second row was previously punished with 20 euros, now it is 55 euros. If you hinder or endanger others, you risk an even higher fine of up to € 110. Anyone illegally driving through a rescue alley for emergency vehicles in traffic jams can be punished with a fine of up to 320 euros, a one-month, two-point driving ban. Until now, such a sentence has only been threatened if drivers have not made room for an emergency lane.

Even speeders will be punished more severely in the future: from now on, 21 kilometers per hour will be more than allowed in towns and cities to charge a fine of 80 euros, one point and one month of driving ban (previously 31 km / h). Outside the city, the limit is 26 kilometers per hour. Unlike before, a driver’s license can disappear for a month the first time. Also: If you drive up to 20 kilometers per hour too fast, you will have to expect fines that are twice as high as before, both in towns and cities.

Traffic should be safer

New rules also apply when overtaking cyclists, pedestrians, and electric scooters. From now on, you must keep a distance of at least 1.5 meters from them, 2 meters are necessary outside the city. Until now, only “sufficient margin” was required.

Above all, the new traffic regulations are intended to make traffic safer for cyclists and pedestrians. There should also be car-sharing perks, i.e. carpools and cars with electric drives. For example, parking spaces will be easier for them to identify in the future.
