Corona Rapid Tests: New Accusations Against CSU Politician Sauter

Not just masks, now tests too: Last December, Alfred Sauter is said to have urgently asked the office of Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) in an email to lobby for special approval of a specific corona rapid test. This was also granted at the end of the year. According to the “Süddeutscher Zeitung”, the CSU politician has agreed a fee of 300,000 euros as a lawyer with the manufacturer from Martinsried near Munich. Sauter is said to have signed the mail to the manager of Söder’s office as a member of the state parliament.

State Chancellery: not used for rapid tests

The State Chancellery said that after Sauter’s intervention, nothing was done about it and that there was no written or telephone support for the rapid test. Nothing is known about a possible fee for Alfred Sauter, either. Everything else falls to the Attorney General’s Office, with which the state government cooperates extensively. The Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices, which is responsible for the approval, told the newspaper that it was a regular procedure, without the influence of third parties.

Investigation into alleged corruption

An investigation is currently underway against Alfred Sauter on suspicion of corruption. As a lawyer, he is said to have received more than one million euros for mask deals. Sauter denies the criminal behavior, but has since resigned from all party positions and resigned from the CSU parliamentary group. The former Bavarian Minister of Justice remains a member of the state parliament.
