During the crown demonstration in Stuttgart, the official requirements were largely not met. There were also physical attacks on journalists. There are criticisms of the police approach.
In Stuttgart, according to the police, more than 10,000 people, most without masks and without distance, demonstrated at a rally of the “lateral thinking” movement against the policy of the crown. Hundreds of officials were on duty but barely intervened due to violations of Corona’s rules. This generated much criticism, as well as attacks on journalists.
Violent attacks on journalists
A 37-year-old man was arrested for allegedly hitting a journalist, police said. In addition, a television crew from ROE a live switch with tagesschau24 abort.

Marcus Bornheim, first editor-in-chief of ARD currentHe stated: “We condemn the attacks on our reporter. It is a testimony of poverty when such events are used to undermine the freedom of the press. We ask the police to clarify these events.”
The German Association of Journalists (DJV) also condemned the attacks on media representatives. “Once again, self-proclaimed lateral thinkers have no inhibitions about attacking reporters as the target of their ire,” said DJV Federal president Frank Überall. “That alone is bad enough.”
Criticism also from politics
Foreign Minister Heiko Maas also harshly criticized the manifestation of the “lateral thinking” movement. Everyone has the right to demonstrate, the SPD politician wrote on Twitter. But when thousands are on the move without mask or distance, “it violates all the rules and even more against all reasons.”
Those who participate are not only putting their own health at risk but also that of others, Maas said. Insults and attacks on journalists have absolutely nothing to do with freedom to demonstrate. “They are attacks on freedom of the press. They must be prosecuted and punished.”

Thousands of administrative offenses
According to the mayor of Stuttgart, Clemens Maier, there were thousands of administrative violations. Anyone walking through the city without a mask and without any distance from the rallies would have to wait for reports. He will also consult with the state government to what extent Crown regulation will be adjusted based on experience in assembly matters.
Stuttgart police spokesman Stefan Keilbach said: “This is not a satisfactory situation for us as a policeman.” On the one hand there is freedom of assembly, on the other hand, protection against infection. Officials did not intervene to prevent more people from crowding the site. In the evening, the police headquarters announced that 254 violations of the crown had been punished.
Uwe Lahl from the Baden-Württemberg Health Ministry, for example, said: “I don’t understand that the city has maneuvered in this situation with its eyes.” Both in writing and in a personal phone call, he had shown Mayor Maier the possibilities that state regulation Corona also offers to prohibit large-scale demonstrations, the ministerial director said. So the city decided not to ban it.
